Hurricane dry ice questions
How much dry ice do I need for a power outage?
About 50 lb of dry ice (five of our 10 lb blocks) keeps a full 18 cu ft freezer frozen for roughly two days, per USDA guidance. A half-full freezer, a chest freezer or a longer outage changes the math. Call and we’ll help you size it.
Can I put dry ice in my refrigerator?
You can, but it will freeze what’s inside. For a fridge, wrap a 5 or 10 lb block in newspaper, set it on the top shelf, and move anything that shouldn’t freeze away from it.
When should I order dry ice for a hurricane?
As early as you can once a storm is forecast. Demand spikes in the days before landfall and right after. Businesses can sign up ahead of the season for priority dry ice after a storm.
Is dry ice safe in my house or car?
Yes, with care. Keep the area ventilated, never seal it in an airtight container, never handle it bare-handed, and don’t ride with it in a closed car. Keep it away from kids and pets.
How long does dry ice last?
In a typical cooler it sublimates about 5–10 lb every 24 hours. Blocks last longer than pellets. Keep it in an insulated cooler with a loose lid.
